Rooted in sustained engagement with the Fife shoreline, these paintings are shaped by repeated return — to rock, tide and open sky along the Forth Estuary. What compels me is the elemental force of the place: exposed strata, the weight of stone, the horizon shifting under restless light. A visit to Japan sharpened my sensitivity to restraint, to silence within an image, and to the presence held in weathered surfaces — an awareness that continues to inform the way I distil and reduce what I see. I begin in observation, but the work does not remain there. Memory edits, atmosphere intervenes, forms are pared back and restructured. The paintings move beyond description toward something distilled and felt — a tension between solidity and erosion, endurance and change. They are not records of a landscape, but acts of inhabiting it.
